Futuremark Corporation Joins Symbian Platinum Program
Saratoga, Ca 01 December 2004 ¬¬¬¬Futuremark Corporation announced today that it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program to support the growing market for smartphones based on Symbian OS. As a Platinum Partner, Futuremark is extending its performance and power efficiency measurement software and services to the Symbian OS ecosystem. Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the leading operating system that powers the worlds most popular smartphones. To date, almost 20 million phones based on Symbian OS have shipped worldwide.
Futuremarks SPMark04 smartphone benchmark provides a comprehensive application for measuring and comparing the performance and power consumption of the increasingly complex mobile platforms and enables objective comparisons among the various smartphones based on Symbian OS. By becoming a Symbian Platinum Partner, Futuremark is also able to provide support for unannounced Symbian OS versions to its corporate customers.
As the sales and development numbers of Symbian OS smartphones are rapidly increasing, Futuremark is committed to establish SPMark04 to be the most comprehensive benchmarking tool for Symbian OS smartphones", said Tero Sarkkinen, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Futuremark. The application performance and related power consumption of a smartphone is an increasingly important criterium for consumers during their purchasing decision process, he continued.
As users begin to spend more time on their smartphones playing games and using graphically rich multimedia applications, its really important to get the best performance out of the hardware! Good benchmarking tools that truly exercise the OS and underlying hardware really help, said Bill Pinnell, Multimedia and Graphics Product Manager, Symbian. Were very happy that Futuremark has joined the Symbian Platinum Program, and look forward to working together and ensure the Symbian OS runs like a bat out of hell on future hardware platforms!
