Futuremark® Service Deployed for Windows XP Game Advisor
Customers Can Easily Select the Right Game for Their Windows XP PC
Saratoga, California USA December 2nd, 2003 Futuremark Corporation announced today that its Windows XP Game Advisor has been launched by Microsoft on the Windows XP website. The tool helps Windows XP users determine which games will run on their PC, and then select the perfect game for themselves, family or friends.
In addition to allowing consumers to filter games by genre and age group, the Windows XP Game Advisor provides unbiased performance comparisons that will aid consumers to determine which games will perform best on their computers, before they go to the store -- and even print or e-mail a shopping list of just the right games. The site also will filter games according to Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) age categories so that only appropriate games are recommended for users within specific age groups.
"Windows XP is the best platform for PC gaming today, and these tools make it even easier for millions of gamers of all types to find, enjoy and extend their gaming experience," said Dean Lester, general manager of the Windows Graphics and Gaming Technologies Division at Microsoft Corp. "The Windows XP Game Advisor is a fast, easy-to-use Web site resource that will help consumers pick just the right titles for gamers on their gift list this holiday season.
While the users of the service enjoy of a smooth and engaging online experience, its inner working is very elaborate and unique. The service scans the users PC hardware configuration and then forms a performance estimate based on Futuremarks PC performance database comprising of over 10 million records of 3DMark® and PCMark benchmark results. This estimation is then compared to the gaming performance requirements of over 100 game titles, including blockbusters from publishers such as Atari, EA, Square Enix and others. The service also has a component-level review feature, which lets users drill deeper into the technical detail of their PCs.
It is with great pleasure that we announce this service, because we know it will be such an invaluable resource for anyone who wants or needs to purchase a game for their PC. Were happy to create this great tool that guides customers to find the best games, which they can play on their PC. This results in happier customers and fewer costly product returns for game publishers, said Tero Sarkkinen, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Futuremark.
